Clothes recycling and sustainable fashion has been a trendy subject in the past years. Thankfully, the public is increasingly more aware of the effect of fast fashion on the environment and open to positive initiatives.
Occasionally the time comes to part with your once-loved clothing items - enters our textile recycling service, ensuring that clothes for recycling don't ever end up in a landfill.
Items in good conditions are sent to charities both in the UK and in developing countries. Garments that can't be reused are repurposed as new materials such as insulation and carpet underlays, for example.
Fashion brands can benefit from fabric scrap recycling and confidential textile shredding to minimise environmental impact and increase recycling rates (and we also recycle coat hangers!).
As you can see, your clothing bins are just the beginning of a long journey for fabric recycling!

How our Textiles Recycling service works
-
STEP 1
Collection
Textile recycling bins or sacks are collected from inside your business by a uniformed driver.
-
STEP 2
Sorted
All materials are then taken to our depot, where they are separated and stored.
-
STEP 3
Processing
Textiles are sorted into grades for repair and re-sale in the UK and abroad.
-
STEP 4
Recycled
Any items that are damaged beyond repair are sent for recycling, where they're made into new materials such as cleaning cloths, insulation and seat padding.
Benefits
Don’t throw away your old clothes: they are very valuable for charity shops and can really help someone who can’t afford brand new garments.
Every textile recycling sack collected by First Mile is carefully sorted and analysed - we even repair items to give them a new home. All clothes in good conditions are then donated to charity shops to be resold in the UK or abroad.
Damaged clothes that can’t be fixed are sent to a recycling facility where they’re separated, shredded and turned into new materials. Yes, that’s right: even that old, worn-out piece can be given a new life! Simply add a clothes recycling bin to your workplace and get your team to start recycling clothes straight away.
If you’re a fashion brand and produce a high amount of clothes frequently, we can help your company by recycling fabric scraps and product samples, so they don’t end up incinerated or in a landfill. For any exclusive prints or secret designs, we also offer confidential textile shredding services that are secure, compliant and green.
