If you like a cuppa while you work but you don’t eat teabags, you’re going to need a food recycling bin.
Our food recycling service sends its contents to make renewable energy and costs less than general waste. It also prevents contamination into your recycling bins such as paper, compostables, cans and plastic - and collections of food recycling are offered daily.
When food waste goes to landfill, it decomposes under uncontrolled conditions and releases methane, which is 23x more dangerous to the planet than carbon dioxide.
So by recycling food waste, you spend less and make your business greener - what's not to like?
Feed a hungry Anaerobic Digestor with your food recycling today.
How our Food Recycling service works
Food recycling sacks and bins are collected from outside your business.
The food waste is separated from the coffee grounds it might be collected with at our award-winning Sacktory®.
The food waste is then taken to a local Anaerobic Digester, where microorganisms break down the food.
This process creates biogas, which is fed into a combined heat and power engine that provides gas and electricity to the National Grid.
Liquid digestate, a by-product of the process, is sent to local farms to use as a fertiliser.
It's estimated that between 30-50% of all food produced on the planet is never eaten. Meanwhile, over 800 million people are starving or malnourished - just in the UK, over 1.2 million people rely on food banks.
Food waste is also really bad for the environment. Every year, an area larger than China is used to produce food that's never consumed. This means major deforestation, endangered animals and degradation of soil. The production of this amount of food that goes to waste also accounts for 25% of all global fresh water consumption - all for nothing.
It gets worse: when all this food waste reaches the landfill, it decomposes under unsuitable conditions, generating methane gas that is 23 times more deadly than carbon dioxide.
Preventing food waste is the first step towards a more sustainable and fair world. For any waste that can't be avoided (such as tea bags, fruit & veggie peels and bones, for example), food recycling comes to the rescue!
By separating your food waste from the rest, you prevent contamination on your mixed recycling bins, increase your company's recycling rates, help the planet and save money - food recycling sacks are cheaper than general waste. It's a no-brainer!
